It is hard to believe we are half way through the term already.
We have had some unseasonal weather in the last week or so and I am pleased to advise that we avoided any significant damage to the school buildings and grounds.
We have some very exciting events coming up including Harmony Day in the week commencing 16 March. Please keep an eye out for more information relating to this.
Last week we had the Tucker Bush incursion. During this incursion some of our students planted our first bush tucker garden. I look forward to watching the plants grow and tasting some of the “bush tucker”.
The Child and Parent Centre construction is going well and I am pleased to see that the additional parking bays are almost complete. Should any parents have any questions or concerns relating to the construction please feel free to advise me at the office and I will follow them up with the builder as required.
It was fantastic to see the strong turnout for breakfast club last Thursday. We have moved breakfast club to the Eremaea block. Parents are reminded that playing on the Megatoy and the Nature Play are not allowed before school, this includes breakfast club Thursdays. It is always great to see some parents at breakfast club and we hope parents will assist the school by directing their children to either enjoy breakfast club or to sit outside the library.
Thank you to all those families that voted recently on the School Board vacancy. I am pleased to confirm the School Board for 2020.

Staff Development Day
Friday 28 February was a Staff Development Day. Mrs Maloney and Miss Wiggins presented to staff fun ways to engage students in learning. It was a very successful day and the teachers had a great time. Staff were led through a variety of fun and motivating ways in which to conduct lessons that best supports the varying interests and needs of students.
We look forward to seeing our teachers continuing to embrace new and innovative instructional strategies so that every student can reach their potential.

Room 21
What a start to the year it has been in Room 21. We have been working very hard and have accomplished many beautiful pieces of work already.
In art we have explored the use of warm and cold colours as well as different line styles to create these pieces of artwork titled ‘Sun and Moon’ and ‘Pineapple Zentangle’.
In math we have been focusing on place value and the students have enjoyed some hands on tasks with their groups.
We have been working on narrative writing in literacy. To improve our descriptive writing we created some 'ode to food' poems that made us very hungry!
Room 21 were excited to peform their assembly item ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ at yesterdays assembly.

The staff at Arbor Grove PS have been participating in the National Education Initiative to develop a mental health and wellbeing program since 2018. We have been working to establish a mental health and wellbeing strategy that will support our students, families and staff.
Be You provides a framework to target and promote positive mental health. It is a support service to registered schools that provides staff with online education opportunities and resources to assist with student, family and staff mental health and wellbeing. At this point Arbor Grove PS has all staff registered with Be You and we have completed the three modules of Resilience as a professional learning. We have also chosen an appropriate program – Aussie Optimism – that we implemented in term 3 2019. This program supports students in decision making, regulating emotions, dealing with challenges and developing resilience. It was chosen as it fits well with our Protective Behaviours program that we teach in term 2 and addresses many areas we wanted to develop in our students.
If you or someone in your family needs support, Beyond Blue or the Raising Children Network are two online places you can go for information about support services.

Swimming Lessons
Interm Swimming notes for pre primary to year 4 students will be coming home this week. The lessons will be conducted at the Swan Active Midland between Monday 25 May and Friday 5 June, weeks 5 and 6 of term 2. All lessons are 40mins in length and all lessons will be completed within the school day. There are approximately 400 places available to the school. Student participation is strongly encouraged as the program forms part of our Physical Education curriculum and develops your child’s water safety and swimming skills. Students not attending swimming lessons will remain at school and be provided with an educational program.
Harmony Day Assembly
To help celebrate our Arbor Value of 'belonging', we will be holding a short Harmony Day assembly on Wednesday 18 March at 1:55pm in the undercover area. Students are most welcome to wear national dress or orange. We look forward to having you join us.
