CoVID
Parents are reminded that we are still in Phase 4 easing of restrictions and as such we remind parents/carers and visitors that whilst they may access the school grounds physical distancing of one adult per two square metres and good hygiene practices still apply.
2021
Planning for 2021 has begun. Places in our kindergarten classes for 2021 are filling fast so I would urge any interested families to get their enrolments in.
Should you be leaving us at the end of the year please advise the front office at the earliest opportunity. This information helps us in our planning for next year.
Early in Term 4 parents will be given the opportunity to submit classroom requests. As with previous years these will need to be based around the academic or social needs of your child.
Before / After School
I would like to remind all parents and students that the Nature Play, the play area at the back of the Science Room and the Megatoy are out of bounds before and after school. Students arriving before 8.30am are to sit outside the Library or with their parents outside their classroom.
We hope that the next easing of COVID restrictions, when they are announced, will allow us to recommence allowing parents to stay until 3.30pm to supervise their children playing on the Megatoy and on the playground behind the Science Room. The Nature Play, however, will remain out of bounds after school.
Parking and Student Collection from the front of the School
Over the past few months we have become increasingly concerned as to the safety of the students who depart from the front of the school as we have observed an increasing number of parents parking on the verge, stopping in areas that are not safe and treating the road at the front of the school as a “kiss and drive”.
We have also been advised that some parents are reacting in an inappropriate and aggressive fashion when others have asked them to obey the road signs, which again is disappointing, as we all have the same objective of keeping the children safe.
Where parents notice someone parking inappropriately we would encourage you to contact the City of Swan Rangers rather than tackle the person involved directly. This will reduce the chances of unnecessary conflict.
The council has increased patrols, placed new signage in the area, and are being more visible in the policing of the area. We have also met with Jessica Shaw, MLA to discuss the situation and are pleased with her support and commitment to helping us find a longer term solution.
In addition to the above the school is currently reviewing its use of the front gates for student departures in light of the safety concerns for students and will keep the school community abreast of any changes that we may make.
I am sure parents will support any action the school takes that helps avoid an injury to a student.
Term 4 Events
We are regularly reviewing our Term 4 events and considering how to proceed in light of the COVID restrictions. We are aware that on Tuesday 18 August the Premier announced that Phase 5 easing of restrictions has been delayed two months until October 24. This delay will impact on how the events scheduled in Term 4 will proceed, in particular the Faction Carnival and Year 6 Graduation. We are currently considering the impact of Tuesday’s announcement and we will ensure parents are kept informed of decisions made. We appreciate your continued support and understanding during the COVID situation. At all times our decisions will be based on the best outcome for students, parents and compliance with the COVID restrictions in place at the time.

Room 20
In Room 20 we have been fine-tuning our ability to work in groups and pairs. Working in collaborative groups or pairs helps us to consider other people’s perspectives, develop our social skills, allows everyone to participate and gives us the chance to communicate our understanding. We have created posters of triangles as a group, learnt about fact or opinion from our peers, and solved mixed number fractions equations with our peers.

EAL/D Support
This year has been challenging for us all. The P&C would like to thank everyone that has continued to be involved in supporting our students at AGPS.
Some of the things the P&C are still running this year are the:
Canteen
School Banking
Scholastic Book Club
Father’s Day Stall and Raffle
End of Year Raffle.
All money raised by the P&C goes back into the school. The current big project we are raising money for is the upgrading of the school playgrounds.
Please check out our Facebook page for the latest news.
We always welcome new people onto the P&C so if you are thinking about becoming more involved in the school come along to our next meeting in week 7, Wednesday 2 September 2020, 6.30pm in the staffroom.

Canteen
This week the canteen has started opening at recess for students to purchase something to eat. We are still only open on Thursday and Fridays. So if your child has spun a canteen voucher dig it out and we would love to see them being spent at the canteen. Cash will be taken over the counter at recess.
Volunteers make up a big part of running the canteen so if you have an hour to spare please contact us. One of the reasons we haven’t been able to open the canteen further is not having enough volunteers.
Faction Carnival NEWS – Please note the canteen will NOT be open for the carnival this year.
Lunch orders are still only through Flexischools. If you are having problems with Flexischools please contact Jenni in the canteen.
