COVID Update
Early this week the Premier announced Level 2 public health measures including the extension of the face mask mandate to include students in Years 3 – 6 from this Thursday. Students will not need to wear masks during eating, recess and lunchtimes or any time when they undertake strenuous activity. This measure will help keep staff and students safe and looking after each other is very much the ARBOR value of Belonging.
This week we have had our first reported cases of COVID19 from a PCR test. Once we received this confirmation we were able to follow the Education and Health Department approved protocols including the identification of close contacts and isolation of students and staff in these classes. This news should come as a timely reminder for all members of the community to monitor for COVID19 symptoms and seek testing if symptoms develop. It is important to remind parents that should a child test positive with a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) it is important to have this confirmed via a PCR test at one of the PCR testing centres.
We ask that if you or your child develop symptoms or feel unwell, please do not attend school. Please note that the Omicron strain can present with less typical symptoms such as diarrhoea, particularly in children.
I would like to thank all of the Parents and Caregivers for your continued support of the school as we deal with the ongoing COVID challenge.
Free Dress Day
This Friday we have a free dress day with proceeds going to the Childhood Cancer Association who provide support to children with cancer and their families. The school has had a number of students and families that have been impacted by Cancer and it is pleasing that we are able to raise money for this worthy association.

On Entry Assessment Program
Our Pre Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 students are currently undertaking assessments in Literacy and Numeracy called On Entry Assessment.
On entry is an assessment for learning and provides the classroom teacher with valuable information about the skills and understandings that students demonstrate at the beginning of the year. It also provides information that is used to plan and deliver programs that reflect the needs of each student’s needs and capabilities.
When completed parents will be provided with a summary of the skills and understandings their child demonstrated during the assessments.

COVID
It has definitely been a chaotic week for many of our staff, students and community with COVID19 arriving at Arbor Grove. Thank you to the many parents who had to take phone calls, pick up students and organise Covid testing. It is a very anxious time for all and it was so great to see the community rally together to support the school in keeping students safe. A big thank you to the ladies in the front office for their help with fielding calls, signing students out and being the first contact for our families.
Thursday saw the new stage of restrictions with students in Year 3 – 6 wearing masks while in the classroom. The teachers are mindful of the need for students to have lots of breaks, where they can take their mask off during crunch and sip and planning for additional time outside. Thank you to all of the families and students who have helped by sending students to school in their masks. We do have disposable masks available for any child who needs one.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact one of the admin team.

Rachel Wilson - English as an Additional Language/Dialect Support Co-ordinator
My name is Rachel Wilson and my main role at Arbor Grove is to support students and families whose first language is not English.
I have been in this role for a number of years and love my job! The role is wide and varied.
I help with communication between home and school, translate documents, promote cultural understanding throughout the school and assist teachers where needed. I am available to assist parents with enrolment, health care documents and incursion and excursion letters.
I support students in class with oral language activities to improve their English so they can reach their full potential. I also support students and families who are new to the country.
I have sourced bilingual books and placed them in the library for students to share with families. It has been exciting to watch parents, grandparents and their children sharing stories often for the first time in home language and English. I add new books regularly to the collection in a wide range of languages.
Another important part of my role is to connect families with the school and wider community. I organise regular afternoon teas and often invite members of the community to speak to the group about resources they can access in Ellenbrook.
Room 23
Even with the challenges that 2022 has brought us we have made a great start to the year and the students have taken the changes within the school in their stride. It has been a pleasure to get to know Room 23 and I look forward to continuing our learning journey.
This term our focus for Talk for Writing is on Suspense. Throughout our unit of work, the students have amazed me with their creativity and are working really hard to make their writing come to life. We have begun to create our own stories with what we have learnt about Suspense! I cannot wait to read them all.
In Maths we have looked at Place Value and Decimals. We are currently learning about Prime and Composite numbers.
In Art we have done a variety of different masterpieces including an All About Me t-shirt, a storm picture as well as a sun and moon drawing. Below I will leave you with some examples of Room 23’s Artwork.
Hello and Welcome to the Library in 2022!
Miss Bianca Marshall is our Library Officer again this year, and she is very much looking forward to seeing all of the students visiting the Library each week this year.
Please know that students are requested to use a Library bag for borrowing each week. Something that is big enough for a picture book that will provide some protection from the elements. Books are on loan for a week, though can be brought back to be borrowed for another week (renewing).
The Library is now also available on the web – so if you would like to have a look the link is www.arborgroveps.softlinkhosting.com.au . Students can log in with their school details to see what they have out on loan, write reviews and catch up on any Library News. Last year, our students borrowed a huge total of 8555 books throughout the year! Let’s see if we can beat that for 2022!
Keep up to date with regular Connect notices and
Arbor Grove Primary School P&C Association Inc.
Arbor Grove Primary School P&C Ass. Inc. - Canteen
Arbor Grove Primary School - Secondhand Uniform Sales
It’s time for a fresh, new, enthusiastic look to our P&C! Now is the time to get on board and help us grow together to build a strong and supportive group that promotes the interests of Arbor Grove Primary School.
Let’s have a look at why it is so amazing to be a paid member opposed to a non-paid member who still attends the occasional meeting.
Our P&C will hold our AGM (Annual General Meeting) on March 16, after that there will be a meeting once, sometimes twice a term, depending on what is happening. We appreciate anyone that manages to make the time to come to these meetings, whether you are a paid member or not. BUT being a paid member (that fee is $1) gives you a voice and eligibility to vote on important things for our kids.
For example:
If we must vote – could be as simple as wanting to hold a disco – some members say no some members say yes – this is where YOU and your vote come in. If you are not a paid member you will not be eligible to vote, remember it may be this one vote we need to get it over the line either way.
If you join there is no locked in commitment, we let you know when the meetings are and when we have events on, you become a part of the important discussions and decision making process.
We would love to see new faces, new ideas and lots of great initiatives. Without the work of volunteer parents and citizens, there would be no extracurricular events, fundraisers, canteen or special projects that benefit OUR CHILDREN.
Enquiries regarding the roles and responsibilities of a P&C member can be directed to the current P&C Secretary, Sarah McCallion agpsp-csecretary@outlook.com.au
Nomination and membership forms will be available in the front office or by emailing Sarah at the above email.
Why join the P&C?
The success of the P&C depends on the involvement of the parents and the wider school community. A successful P&C can add immeasurably to the success and appeal of the school through ensuring that students have access to the best resources available and that parents are both informed and have a voice.
All members of the school community are welcomed and encouraged to get involved in the P&C. This does not necessarily mean that you must take and official role.
