The term is really flying by fast!
Thank you to the Parents that attended the recent P&C annual general meeting. Over twenty parents attended and it was so pleasing to see that level of interest and support for the P&C which has always been such a wonderful part of the Arbor Grove community. Congratulations to those that nominated and were successfully elected to positions on the P&C. I look forward to working with you.
I am pleased to confirm that Arbor Grove PS has been selected to be a part of the Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund to receive solar panel installations. Just for context, in 2021 the State Government announced a $44.6 million Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund to deliver new clean energy technologies in public schools across the state including more rooftop solar systems and Virtual Power Plants. This work aligns with the Western Australian Climate Change policy and the Department’s Caring for Country together. As more information is provided I will update the school community.
The $25,000 upgrade of the Science Room, a Government initiative announced during 2021, is ready to proceed. It is hoped that the project will be completed by the second week of May.
COVID Update
In line with the latest advice from the Chief Health Officer, WA moved to very high COVID19 caseload settings from 10 March 2022.
In a very high caseload environment, a close contact includes:
- A household close contact: a household member or intimate partner of a person with COVID-19 who has had contact with them during their infectious period.
- Someone who has had close contact with a person in their infectious period, including:
- At least 15 minutes face-to-face contact where a mask was not worn by both the person with COVID-19 and the exposed person.
- Greater than two hours within a small room or classroom environment, where masks have been removed for this period by both the person with COVID-19 and the exposed person (note: others wearing masks in this scenario would not be a contact).
- Someone who is directed by WA Health that they are a close contact.
Masks
Students from Year 3 and above must wear a mask at all times indoors unless:
- the person has a physical, developmental or mental illness, condition or disability which makes wearing a face covering inappropriate;
- the person is engaged in physical activity, including physical education classes and organised sport; and/or
- the person is consuming food, drink or medicine.
- Students in Years 3 and above who are asymptomatic non-household close contacts and are attending school, are required to wear a mask at all times, unless one of the above exceptions applies, during their modified quarantine arrangements and for 7 days after that period ends. This includes both indoors and outdoors when on school site.
- Masks are encouraged for Kindergarten to Year 2 based on advice from the Chief Health Officer.
- Adults, including parents and carers, must wear a mask on school sites, even when outdoors unless physical distancing can be maintained. Exemptions and exceptions continue to apply.
Testing
I understand that some families have been turned away when trying to get a PCR test and that this is very frustrating. I share your frustration and apologise for any inconvenience experienced to those families that were trying to do the right thing.
The Education Department has raised these matters with Health and they have provided updated guidance to schools. Based on the advice provided to school principals by WA Health, a child that tests positive via a Rapid Antigen Test should present to a COVID Clinic for a PCR test.
A list of COVID Clinics can be found at: www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/COVIDclinics
Thank You
I would like to thank all of the Parents and Caregivers for your continued support of the school as we deal with the ongoing COVID challenge.
The staff have been thrilled with the messages of support and the delivery of small gifts such as Krispy Kreme Donuts have also been gratefully accepted.

Harmony Week
Next week Arbor Grove will be celebrating Harmony Week. Harmony Week celebrates Australian multiculturalism and is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging.
Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony week and students have been invited to wear traditional dress on Monday 21 March or orange clothing.

Room 1
We have been having a wonderful time in Room 1 so far this year. We enjoy routines and love to show the ARBOR value of Organised to begin our day. In the mornings we begin with discussing the weather, the calendar, how many days we have been at school, our timetable for the day and choosing our two handy helpers for the day. We have been missing some of our Room 1 friends and look forward to when we can all be back at school!
A Star of the Week is chosen in Room 1 each week. The children are very excited when it’s their turn as they get some special privileges for the week and everyone gives them a compliment. It is a nice way of recognising how each person in our class is special and unique and builds on the ARBOR Value of Belong. Here are some photos of one our latest stars, Sophie, with her compliments from the class.
In Health we have been focussing on the ARBOR value of Belong, specifically how to be kind to others and ourselves. In one of our lessons we discussed how we can prevent a wrinkled heart. We loved sticking a band aid on our wrinkled hearts to help to heal them.
We enjoy going to the Computer Hub! We are becoming more confident at using the laptops and Connect.
We are so creative in Room 1. Look at our amazing Sun-sational Summer and Koala artwork!
Room 5
We have had a fantastic start to 2022 in Room 5, despite all the challenges this year has brought so far. All our students have settled in well and are taking on Year 1 with enthusiasm and determination. I have enjoyed getting to know the students and families of Room 5 and look forward to seeing their progress and growth throughout the year.
In literacy, we have been focusing on writing narratives using the model text Jack and the Beanstalk. Here are some photos of the students practicing the story orally with actions and some students pretending to be Jack climbing the beanstalk!
The students have enjoyed working with each other to come up with many different story ideas and it has been wonderful to see them begin to put their ideas on paper. Their creativity knows no bounds!
This term in maths we have been focusing on consolidating our number knowledge from 1-120. We have recently been learning about number bonds and are beginning to learn how to skip-count by 2s, 5s, and 10s. We love playing partner games as our warm-ups to maths lessons.
We love incorporating art into our other learning areas, here are just some of the ways we have used art in maths!
Student Leadership Conference
On Monday our Year 5 and 6 Student Leadership Team were fortunate enough to attend the Dream and Lead Conference at Perth Convention Centre. Our Student Leaders and Faction Captains joined a mixture of schools from across the state, with 15 at the Convention Centre and an additional 70 joining in online. The conference was run by a team of young Australian leaders and gave students the chance to add some leadership skills to their toolkit. Students learnt the different styles of leadership and when it is best to use these across different scenarios. They were also asked to identify problems within their school communities, suggest possible solutions and identify people who can help them to resolve the issue. Well done to all the Leaders for being such active participants, but particularly for those students who embraced presenting in front of the audience and overcoming their fears of public speaking.
