Welcome back to all our families and I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday break.
We have another very busy term ahead, starting next week with our NAIDOC celebrations. Mrs Butcher has organised a wonderful range of activities for students to enjoy and participate in.
I am sure all students are busy preparing themselves for two of the best events each year being the Athletics Carnival and Book Week parade.
I would urge all parents to keep an eye on our webpage and the newsletter for information on all the upcoming events.
Before School
I would like to remind all parents and students that the Nature Play and the Megatoy are out of bounds before school. Students arriving before 8.30am are to sit outside the library or with their parents outside their classroom.
We are, however, happy for any parents to stay until 3.30pm to supervise their children playing on the Megatoy. The Nature Play is out of bounds after school.
Open Night
Wednesday August 21 is a big day. Please place this date in your calendar. We begin the day with our Book Week parade in the undercover area and we will finish the day with our annual Open Night.

Ellenbrook Secondary College Band
Last term in week 10 we had a visit from the Ellenbrook Secondary College Band. It was a tight squeeze to fit all the students from Pre Primary to Year 6 into the undercover area but well worth the effort. The students enjoyed hearing a range of music from classical to modern. Thank you to Mr Rhine-Davis for bringing his talented crew for us to enjoy and appreciate.

Puppet Show
We have been working hard creating a Puppet Show this term. We have written our scripts based on the Arbor Values and have made puppets as well. Some classes may be lucky enough to see our fantastic show this term.
Assembly
Our assembly is happening in week 2 this term. We are doing a play on the sinking of the Titanic. It’s going to be great.

Kindergarten Enrolments 2020
Kindergarten introduces young children to a school environment. It teaches them to follow routines and to cooperate with fellow students. These skills help children to adjust more quickly to primary school. At Arbor Grove Primary School, Kindergarten is a play-based learning environment where children are encouraged to be creative, collaborative and effective communicators.
Children who are born between 1 July 2015 and 30 June 2016 are eligible to attend Kindergarten in 2020. If you know anyone with a child that is eligible to attend please let them know that we are now taking enrolments at Arbor Grove Primary School. Application forms are available from the front office or can be downloaded from our website. Places are filling fast!!
Pre Primary Enrolments 2020
If your child is currently attending Kindergarten at Arbor Grove Primary you will need to re-enrol them for Pre Primary next year. We ask that you please come into the office to do this with current proof of address and your child's updated Immunisation History Statement at your earliest convenience. Immunisation History Statements can be obtained by logging into Medicare online via MyGov (https://my.gov.au) or calling the Australian Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809. If your child will not be staying on at Arbor Grove Primary for Pre Primary we also ask that you notify the office as soon as possible.
Interschool Sport Winter Carnival
Last term saw our largest squad of over 120 students attend the Interschool Winter Carnival. We had students represent our school in Netball, Football, Hockey, Soccer and Modcrosse.
Congratulations to all of our students who were involved in assisting Arbor Grove in being the winning school, placing first place overall at the carnival. You have all worked hard throughout the term preparing for the event. Well done to our Netball and Hockey teams who finished first in the competition. All teams demonstrated great determination and sportsmanship. It’s great to see our students showing their ARBOR Values.
Athletics Faction Carnival
With term 3 starting our students are getting into the swing of preparing for our school Faction Carnival. The Faction Carnival will be held over two days. Wednesday 4 September will be our jumps day, with all jumps, throws and distance running to be completed. Friday 6 September will be our whole school Faction Carnival, with all age races and team games to be completed. This year we are very excited to have our Pre Primary students join us all day and be part of the main carnival. Further information will be made available throughout the term.
Defence News
Hello Parents,
I hope everyone had a lovely break over the holidays. We finished last term with our highly anticipated pizza lunch and lots of smiles. This term we will continue to finish off our poster and enjoy our lunch activities with some milo to keep the chills away.
If there are any current serving Defence families that would like to know more about the program or identify themselves to me so their children can participate, please feel free to notify the school or contact me directly at Janelle.wallace@education.wa.edu.au I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

DSM
Welcome back to school for term 3. The P&C are working hard around the school and we are always looking for new people to join our team. This Friday is P&C Day, so if you see one of our fantastic team around the school, stop and have a chat with them to see what we have planned for the rest of the year.
Did you know we have a Facebook page?
Pop over and like our page to be kept updated as to what forms should be coming home with your children. Extra forms are always put in the front office if your child has misplaced their form.
Fundraising
Picture Projects Fundraiser
Create a memory that lasts a lifetime!
Look out for flyers and order forms coming home very soon.
These will make great Christmas presents. Money will be due soon after the forms go out but expect your orders to be returned in the first week of December 2019.
Father’s Day Stall
This year Father’s Day falls on Sunday September 1 and once again the P&C will run a stall in the days leading up to his special day.
Please keep an eye out in bags as notes will be coming home in the next few weeks.
Silver Coin Challenge
Our Silver Coin Challenge was completed at the end of term 2. Well done to everyone on their efforts.
No bottles were filled, therefore the winning class for the most amount raised, and total number of coins was Room 20.
Runner up with next highest number of coins were the kindy kids from EC5.
Congratulations to our winners! We hope your children enjoy their treats from the canteen. Thank you to everyone that participated in this fundraiser.
Tea and Coffee Stand
We will be back for term 3, set up just outside the undercover area on Assembly days.
Entertainment Book
This is our second year fundraising with Entertainment and so far this year we have raised $306, which is outstanding! You can continue to support our fundraising by purchasing the 19|20 Entertainment Membership.
We receive 20% of the sale of each Membership towards our fundraising and you’ll enjoy exclusive savings for everything you love to do, including:
- Dining, cinema, theme parks, events and attractions
- Travel package rates including thousands of hotels and resorts
- Flights, car rental and gift cards
P&C Grounds Committee
You may have noticed the fairies moved in over the holidays to our junior playground. Along with a few more plants and stepping stones.
Thank you to Natasha O'Reilly, from One Spotty Dog, for creating a beautiful door and windows for our kids to enjoy.

Canteen
Welcome back to term 3. The canteen is putting together a Special Order Day for the sports carnival later this term so please watch out for these forms coming home. (Please note there will not be a special order at the end of term.)
The Canteen is looking for VOLUNTEERS to help on Mondays. Ideally we are looking for someone that could come every week from 9am to 2.30pm. If you are only able to stay for the morning (9am to 12pm) or afternoon (12pm to 2.30pm) we are also happy for you to help. (Volunteers could be Mums, Dads, Grandparents or anyone looking to volunteer in the community.)
If we are not able to secure some new volunteers for Monday’s, we may need to CLOSE the canteen on this day.
Have you looked at placing your child’s order through Flexischool? Why not give it a try. You can log on via the internet or download the app to your phone.

School Banking
School banking has started back this term. Did you know you can bank as little as 5cents a week?
School Banking is every Tuesday. All you have to do is sign up with the Commonwealth Bank, fill in your banking book and then put it in the grey banking wallet that is in the lunch basket in every classroom. Your book is then returned with the lunch basket later that day. So don’t forget to collect it.
