Hello All
Open Night
It was wonderful seeing students excitedly sharing their years work with parents during the recent open night. I would like to thank all those families that attended and a special thank you to those that chose to wear a mask when in the classroom.
I would like to acknowledge my fabulous staff for going to such lengths to make the classrooms so vibrant and alive.
Book Week
Thank you to all the students who dressed as their favourite book characters. It was an impressive array of costumes. A special thank you to the English Committee who organise the day and for the wonderful Masters of Ceremony (Mr Williams and Miss Parfrey) who co-ordinated our parade. It was a wonderful morning and such a pleasure to celebrate the joy of reading.
Planning 2023
If you are leaving Arbor Grove PS at the end of the year we would appreciate if you could let the office know at the earliest opportunity. This information is very helpful when we start organising class lists etc.
Mathematics Incursion
It has been a joy watching the students engaging in Mathematics with Professor Maths. There were lots of smiles and I am sure the students really enjoyed their session. I would like to thank the Mathematics Committee for organising the incursion.
Out of School Hours Care (OSHC)
We are currently seeking expressions of interest to run the Out of School Hours program at Arbor Grove Primary. We understand how important this service is to our school community and I am sure we will attract bids from all the major operators. Please see our school website for further information.
Still so much more to come
There are still a lot of wonderful activities left in this term and I would encourage you to regularly check Connect and your children’s bags for notes. Some of the upcoming events are;
- Colour Run,
- School Photo’s,
- Year 6 Movie Excursion, and
- Athletics Carnival.

Early Collection
Families who would like to collect children early, during the Faction Carnival, can you please see the teacher at your child/ren’s faction bay to sign them out.
At the conclusion of the carnival students will be released by their classroom teacher at the end of the school day. If you wish to take your child at the end of the carnival before the day ends you will need to sign them out at the classroom.

Hats
A reminder to all students that they need to remember to bring their hat to school each day to be able to play in the sun at recess and lunch.
Mathematics
Here’s another Maths Game for all the family to enjoy.
“Addition Quick Draw”
Skills learned: Number recognition, addition and strategic thinking.
Equipment Required: Pack of Cards
Deal out all cards face down, one at a time, beginning to the dealer’s left. It does not matter if some players have more cards than others. Each player puts their cards in a pile, face down in front of them.
The dealer calls ‘Draw’ and all players turn over their top card and place it face up in the centre.
The players add the numbers together and the first player to call out the total wins the cards.
After all cards have been used, the players count the number of cards that they have won. The winner is the person who has the most cards.
Variations:
- Turn over two cards each to create two digit numbers to add together.
- Multiplication Quick Draw - This game is played the same as Addition Quick Draw but players multiply the numbers instead of adding them.

Room 2
Ahoy me Hearties!
Room 2 have been discovering all about the world of Pirates this term. We created our own pirate, gave them a name and used our imagination to describe what they looked like, where they lived, what they ate and what they liked to do. Shiver me timbers!
My name is Pirate Pete and I like to steal treasure. I live on a ship and eat fish. Rhyder |
|
My name is Captain Smelly Sock. I eat seaweed and like to say Aaaarrrr! Yaqoub |
|
My name is Pirate Boy and I live on an Island. I eat noodles and steal treasure. Felix |
|
I am Captain Scar Head and I can sail the Pirate ship. I like eggs on toast. Lily |
|
My name is Tom and I like treasure. I live on a pirate ship and eat lollipops. Tyler |
|
My name is Captain Bailee. I have a sword and a black tooth. I like to sword fight. Lacey |
EC4
EC4 have been focusing on the storybook, The Pirates are Coming! By John Condon. We created a story map with actions to help guide us retell the story.
This term, we have been working hard to practise our digraph words. A digraph is two letters that work together to make one single sound. We loved writing different ‘ar’ words to sound like pirates. Arrrrgh!
NAIDOC Celebrations
It was wonderful to see all the students engaged last week in activities and events that enhance their cultural understanding of First Nations people.
The NAIDOC assembly was amazing with a welcome to country by Sandra Harben and great performances by the Ellenbrook College dancers.
We now have a wonderful mural depicting the six seasons created by artist Kevin Bynder near the bike racks. The students had the opportunity to chat with Mr Bynder while he painted.
Mrs Wight our AIEO will now be working with students to revive the native garden in front of the mural. Thanks so much to Bunnings Ellenbrook for donating bush tucker plants for the garden.

Book Week 2022
STOP DROP AND READ
A new initiative we have started this year is a stop, drop and read. Each day an anonymous staff member read a book over the PA system. The children had to guess who the speaker was and at the end of the week, those who won got a special reward of extra recess time. The children had a great time guessing and the majority of classes were 100% correct. A special shout out to those teachers who were the anonymous readers. It was fabulous listening to all the characters voices.
Book Week Dress Up and Parade
On Wednesday we asked the children to come dressed in their favourite book character. We did a parade around our central grass area to show off our costumes. It was a great event that was celebrated by dancing, singing and laughing. A special thankyou to the families for supporting the students with their dress up. They all looked fabulous!
Talk/Dress Like a Pirate Day!
This Term we will be fundraising for Childhood Cancer with Talk/Dress like a Pirate Day. On Monday 19 September come dressed in your best pirate outfit, bring a gold coin donation and have some pirate fun!
Professor Maths Incursion
This week we had some fun during our Professor Maths Incursion. Each class attended a session in the undercover area over the last 3 days and completed some fun problem solving tasks. The students completed tasks in groups and each time they completed a task they were able to dress up as professors of math!
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Join the adventure!
We encourage you to join us in unlocking the wonderful world of reading for your children. Help them to join the Premier’s Reading Challenge. You can help your children sign up via the website, choose their own avatar and log all the books they read over the course of the Challenge. Weekly prizes will be awarded to students who log a book that week, with major prizes drawn when the challenge ends.

There are extraordinary tourism prizes to be won each week.
Sign up your children on the website to begin their magical journey.
Request for Access to Third Party Services
We are seeking approval for your child to be given access to multiple third party services that would facilitate and support their learning in the classroom. To implement them we need to provide some personal information about your child and we are seeking to gain your consent to do so. The information provided to third parties varies between the different providers, the information provided have been listed below each individual service for your convenience.
When providing consent, it is important that you are aware of what type of information we will be providing, how it will be used, and where it will be stored. If you do not provide consent, your child will not have access to the third party applications.
Please note that, given the significant education benefits that these services provide, the school will contact you to discuss your reasons should you not consent or fail to provide a response.
Please click on the link below to open and compete the consent form. Forms need to be submitted at your earliest convenience. Paper copies of the consent form are available from the front office if needed.
