I would like to welcome everyone back for what will be a very busy Term 4 and hope that everyone had a good break.
For our year 6 students this marks the start of their last term with us. I know the year 6 teachers are busy organising a memorable graduation and end of year activities for these students.
Our year 5 and 6 students have swimming lessons at the beach to look forward to later in the term when the weather is starting to warm up. This should be a great experience for the students, particularly given the role that the sea plays in the Australian lifestyle.
It will be very important that all families keep a regular eye on our webpage and on the newsletter to ensure that they don’t miss any of the many activities planned for this term.
Science Room Opening
We were thrilled to have Jessica Shaw, MLA attend this week to officially open our wonderful refurbished science room. Mrs Quinn and the student councillors impressed Jessica, Jason Maloney (Board Chair) and Amy Holmes (P&C President) with some experiments creating circuits and solar vehicles.
Are you leaving us in 2023?
It is very important that families that are leaving us this year let the school know at the earliest opportunity. This information will be essential to ensure the accuracy of our planning and preparations for 2023.
Class Placement Requests
I would ask that any parents with specific requests for 2023 submit these to the Principal marked “Private and Confidential” by the close of business Friday October 28. Only written requests with an educational focus will be considered and whilst we endeavour to satisfy parent requests it is important to note that the school cannot guarantee this.
Hats
It is disappointing to see so many students without hats. Could parents please ensure that their child(ren) has a school hat with their name on them. This will ensure that, as the weather improves, all students can play outside in the sun not to mention participate in ALL the physical education lessons (many of which will focus on the sports carnival events).
2023 Kindy
Our Kindergarten classes for 2023 are now full. We will commence a wait list for any further enrolments just in case vacancies arise.

Room 9
In writing, the students in Room 9 have been learning the structure of an Information Report. The students started their learning journey by investigating a model text called “The Blue-billed Duck”. We then innovated the model text and made our own changes through shared writing. We finished our learning journey by independently writing an information report about an Australian animal of our choice. Once we had written our information reports and edited them, we published them by typing them onto the computer and learning how to save them on our USB. Finally, we linked our Art lessons in and made our chosen Australian animals out of air-drying clay and used our textas to colour them in.
Room 7
In Maths, Room 7 has been looking at Fractions. The students explored how a fraction is an equal part of a whole. We began identifying whole, halves, quarters and eighths of objects through exploration activities and games. As part of our daily warm up we played a fractions quiz where students were asked questions such as 'True or False?' and 'What fraction is this?' and justified their answers. We then learnt the process for ‘How to work out a fraction in a collection of objects’ and completed a sweet activity involving smarties! It was a delicious and engaging unit of work enjoyed by all the students.
