ACE.jpg

At this week’s assembly Mr Andrew Foster from Ellenbrook Secondary College presented our students with certificates to acknowledge their participation in the Ace Maths Program. This program is designed for students to extend their mathematical skills and knowledge. The students have worked through challenging concepts for three weeks with teachers from ESC. They have completed problem solving tasks as a group and used critical thinking to tackle new ideas. Students have shown great engagement and achievement in their participation in this program.

Nyoongar Wellbeing & Sports – Traditional Interschool Games

On Thursday 21 November Arbor Grove attended the Nyoongar Wellbeing & Sports Annual Traditional Interschool Games at Wellington Square.

The students competed in two different traditional Nyoongar games called Prun and Ilye. Arbor Grove students displayed great sportsmanship throughout the day. It was a close finish but Arbor Grove won first place and received the trophy for 2019.

Bilingual Books

Today room 13 had a very special visit from TJ’s grandfather, Lakhbir Singh Bhinder.  He read The Pied Piper to our class in Hindi.  Miss Denney then read it in English.  He then taught us how to say the alphabet in Hindi.  We had great fun trying to say the letters.  Thank you very much Lakhbir for coming to visit us.

We have many bilingual books in different languages in our library for families to borrow.  If you would like to know more, please come to the office and ask for Rachel Wilson.  Rachel is available at any time to assist our families.

EC 5

Bread.jpg

EC 5, groups C and E, have celebrated FAIRY BREAD DAY by making and enjoying some fairy bread, learning it's Australian and began in the 1920’s. We also read the poem to match written by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Come up here, O dusty feet!

Here is fairy bread to eat.

Here in my retiring room,

Children, you may dine

On the golden smell of broom

And the shade of pine;

And when you have eaten well,

Fairy stories hear and tell.

Before looking at Christmas around the world we have been learning about our safety. Last week we focused on road and bike safety. What we need to wear, where should we ride and always ride with an adult. We designed our bike helmets and learnt that they should be worn correctly. 2 finger space between your eye brow and the helmet, the ‘V’ of the straps needs to go around your ears and one finger between the chin and bottom strap. “2V1”

With Summer fast approaching we are looking at Fire and Water safety, it is important for us to be safe. We will look at knowing what to do in case of a fire including staying close to the ground, stop, drop and roll and having a safe meeting place and fire plan.

Battery.jpg

The EMRC Schools Battery Collection Program has begun for 2019.

Please bring in any old batteries and place them in the containers which are situated in every

classroom.

I know we can collect even more than last year.

Lets make 2019 the Year of the Battery!
