In Focus

Fun In Room 16 - Year 3

The students in Room 16 have had lots of fun working in small groups to complete literacy and numeracy tasks.  In our small groups we focus on cooperating to complete hands on activities.  We are always focusing on our ARBOR values during our group times and working hard to achieve our goals.

We have been working on improving our fluency when reading using reading sticks as one of the strategies.  Its lots of fun changing our voices and making funny noises when we read our books.

We have been working in our maths groups to practise lots of different number and measurement skills.  We have been working on telling time to the nearest 5 minutes, adding money, addition and subtraction with 2 and 3 digit numbers, rounding to 10 and 100, word problems, multiplying by 2, 5 and 10 and using and interpreting graphs.

We worked with partners or in small groups to research either sharks or dolphins.  Firstly we needed to choose which animal we liked better.  Then we used books and the internet to find out lots of interesting facts about sharks or dolphins.  We presented this information to the class and then used the information to write persuasive texts about why you should like sharks or dolphins.  The students in Room 16 did a great job and were very convincing!
