Principal's Perspective

School holidays are just around the corner and I wish everyone a safe break and look forward to seeing you all back and ready to go on Tuesday 21 July.

I would ask anyone that sees suspicious behaviour within or around the school grounds over the holiday period to contact Education Security on 9264 4771. I would also urge students to stay away from the school grounds during the holidays.

What an extraordinary year this continues to be!  We are nearing the end of term 2, a term which started with around 60% of students attending and finishes with us averaging nearly 90% attendance. As we head into term 3 I hope to see more students heading back into 100% attendance.

Whilst we would like every student to be here every day it is essential that when children get sick they remain at home.

The following table outlines the long term reduction in learning frequent absences create.

COVID 19

It has been wonderful seeing some parents back on site dropping and collecting students in the Kindergarten and Pre Primary years.

It is also very pleasing to see the older students being supported in their new found independence by parents and continuing to be collected and dropped off at the various gates.

We will continue to monitor announcements by the State Government, assess the impact on school operations and then distribute any changes to the school community.

It remains very important that students have water bottles. Many of our taps have been converted to water refill stations and it is likely that we will phase out the taps totally over time. We see the increased use of water bottles as one positive to come from the “new normal”. We would urge all parents to ensure their children’s name is on their water bottle and that they have it with them every day.

Colourful Dress Day

The school held a special “free dress” event on Wednesday 17 June to remember and celebrate the life of Josh Martin who had recently passed away. Students were asked to wear bright colours on the day and to bring a gold coin donation. Over $1,100 was collected on the day which has been donated to Heart Kids.

2021

Kindergarten enrolments for 2021 are open and places are filling fast. I would urge all families to secure their spot for 2021 as soon as possible to avoid being on the waiting list.

Reports

Just a reminder that reports will again be distributed via email this year in week 10. If you require a printed copy please contact the school at the earliest opportunity. Parents are reminded that NO grades will be allocated due to the disruption caused to student learning by the COVID situation.
