In Focus
Room 13
Hard at work in Year 3 - Room 13!
The students in room 13 have had lots of fun working in small groups to complete literacy and numeracy tasks. In our small groups we focus on cooperating to complete hands on activities. We are always focusing on our ARBOR values during our group times and working hard to achieve our goals.
We have been working hard in our Maths lessons to develop fluency with multiplication and time. We have been playing games like Stop the Clock and Multiplication Swat to improve our fluency, accuracy and to beat our times. We are quite competitive!
We have also been adding and subtracting money and solving word problems with money. We are also working on converting metres, centimetres and millimetres.

In room 13 we have spent the term learning about dinosaurs. We have researched a variety of dinosaurs and produced some amazing work. We have used lots of cooperative instructional strategies to work together to research and create Venn Diagrams and posters. We created dinosaur fossils out of cotton buds and used Word and Publisher to create our dinosaur reports and posters. Our newspaper articles about a dinosaur loose in Ellenbrook have become our favourite book to read. We are now dinosaur experts!

Room 15
Get set … start!!! Term 4 started with a whirl of activities for room 15. The students continued to expand their knowledge in areas such as English, Mathematics, Geography and Art. To make things new and exciting students also included their own research and artistic skills.
In English, students learned the art of retelling a story. This was done by each of them creating stick puppets. They then had to retell the story in groups by using their puppets to the rest of the class. There was a lot of laughter and the audience were both supportive and involved. This activity has enabled the students to develop and expend their narrative skills in order to make their stories interesting. The next stage is to use their gained skills and extend their knowledge on how to retell stories in written form.
We have shaken things up in Mathematics. Students have been introduced to currency and how to understand what it’s about when spending it at the shop. The game “Play Money” was used and showed positive results. This has given them all the insight of how and why money is needed in our society and how it is being used. They also learned about Capacity. They all enjoyed measuring different volumes, documenting them and discussing it later in class.
Geography turned out to be a hit. Students have been overjoyed on how to use an Atlas. This term our topic is Australian major features. They were introduced to many wonderful natural features such as, the famous Pinnacles and the renowned Great Barrier Reef. The next challenge is for them to create their own power point. They will choose and research an Australian major feature and present it to the rest of the class.
In Art, they all really enjoyed learning about Totems, what they mean to the Aboriginal people and then express this passion into their own artwork. The attention to detail and care is very impressive. Well done to all in Room 15!!!
