Athletics Faction Carnival

Our school Athletics Carnival looked a little different this year being held over four days. Well done to everyone who competed. The students all competed in great spirit and a huge amount of fun was had by all. The overall results were:

1st Place Gnangara 1044
2nd Place Henley 976
3rd Place Caversham 974
4th Place Whiteman 929

Good luck to all the students from year 1 – 6 who will be representing Arbor Grove next week at the EISA Interschool Athletics Carnival. Unfortunately, due to the Covid19 restrictions, the network Primary Schools have had to make the decision to not have parents attend the interschool event this year. Faction Captains

The faction captains play an important part in helping with the running and organising of all school sporting events. Our eight faction captains have worked hard all year with the faction carnival, lunchtime activities and assisting to ensure that all sporting events and training run smoothly and equipment is always available for the whole school to use. Every member has done a fantastic job assisting Mrs McCabe, Mr Williams and other teachers within the school.  Well done and thank you to you all.

Defence School Mentor News

I am so pleased to announce that there have been some changes made to which students I am able to work with across my four schools. I am now able to include students whose parents are reservist members and members who have recently transitioned out of the Defence Force. If this includes you, please contact me ASAP and I can give you details of what we do at Arbor Grove within the Defence School Mentor Program. As I am across four schools it may be easier to email me – Janelle.wallace@education.wa.edu.au , or feel free to give me a call on 9297 9700. Have a great week!

The staff at Arbor Grove have been participating in the National Education Initiative to develop a mental health and wellbeing program since 2018.  We have been working to establish a mental health and wellbeing strategy that will support our students, families and staff. This strategy includes using the Be You resources to assist with teacher professional learning and teaching the Aussie Optimism program to assist students to develop resilience and emotional intelligence.

Be You provides a framework to target and promote positive mental health. It is a support service to registered schools that provides staff with online education opportunities and resources to assist with student, family and staff mental health and wellbeing.

Arbor Grove has all staff registered with Be You and we have completed several professional learning modules.  We have recently completed staff and student surveys regarding our school’s approach to mental health and wellbeing. The results were very positive and gave us some areas to work on with our students.  These areas are addressed in the professional learning we are all completing.

Growing_Mentally.jpgResilience is a critical life skill and I have included some information about teaching and reinforcing resilience strategies with your children. More information can be found on the Maggie Dent YouTube site “Things that build resilience in kids”

If you or someone in your family needs support, Beyond Blue or the Raising Children Network are two online places you can go for information about support services.
