Room 1

Beautiful Bugs

In Room 1 we have had a wonderful time learning about bugs as part of our Schoolyard Safari unit in Science.  We were very lucky to have butterflies in our classroom and we were able to observe the lifecycle of the monarch butterfly. From an adult laying its eggs, to the very interesting stripy caterpillars who ate everything in sight. We waited with baited breath as the chrysalis was formed and then turned black. We would arrive each morning with much anticipation to see if another beautiful monarch butterfly had emerged from its slumber. We were so excited when it was time to release them outside into our fabulous playground.

We integrated our Science unit with our English. We read many Eric Carle books such as; The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Bad tempered Ladybird, The Very Busy Spider, The Very Lonely Firefly and The Very Clumsy Click Beetle to name a few.

We had lots of fun dressing up as Butterflies and Ladybugs with our dress ups. We really enjoyed playing with the bugs in our small world area.

Students have enjoyed sharing their bugs that they have discovered in the playground and at home.

Room 1 have had a wonderful journey in Term 1 and we are eager to share our discoveries with classmates, teachers, parents and community.

Visual Arts

This term in visual arts we have been focusing on line, shape and colour. We have experimented with a variety of lines and patterns as a way of decorating abstract artwork.

We were able to use our artistic skills to draw a fire engine which linked to our health unit, Emergency Services, and what we can do to get help.
