In Focus
Room 12
In Art this term we are using lots of colour and have explored the artist Wassily Kandinsky. We completed a planet art work to coincide with our Book Fair theme “To the Book Fair and Beyond”. Last term, children enjoyed looking at Australian artist Pete Cromer’s Australian animal paintings, we then created some wonderful koalas.

A Star of the Week is chosen in Room 12 each week. The children are very excited when it’s their turn as they get some special privileges for the week and everyone gives them a compliment. It is a nice way of recognising how each person in our class is special and unique and builds on the ARBOR Value of Belong. Here are some photos of one our latest stars, Paige, with her compliments from the class.
In Health this term we are learning about Protective Behaviours and why it is so important that we always feel safe, at all times. We have created a helping hand network to remember who we can go to if we are feeling uncomfortable or unsafe. In our lessons, we enjoy participating in various instructional strategies to help us learn about this important topic.
We love getting out the blocks to make big numbers in Room 12. We are using them to help us add three digit numbers and also partition them into smaller numbers.
Room 14
This semester Room 14 have had opportunities to learn about design technologies used within society. Using engineering principles and tapping into previous science knowledge about forces, students have explored design elements of bridges and created two versions building on the knowledge of what worked and did not work. In each project the students had limited resources and were required to build over a barge (egg container) and support weight. Students explored how shape impacts design and that the triangle is the strongest shape which is why it is used predominately in a lot of structures. Students also used this knowledge to build marble runs making little challenges within a confined space.

In Maths we have been exploring our understanding of money and learning through addition and subtraction how to make sure we are receiving the right change. We have also been strengthening our mental multiplication understanding by challenging ourselves and each other to various activities such as “Hit the Button”, “Quiz, Quiz, Trade” and “Beat the Buzzer”.
